J.R. Lyle likely out one week

Senior (maybe junior) guard J.R. Lyle was conspicuously absent from the game Sunday against Judson after spraining his ankle at practice over the weekend.

Lyle, who is averaging 5.0 ppg and 1.2 apg this season, has been the spark off the bench when Milwaukee needs a jolt of energy. He is sixth on the team with 15.1 minutes per game and has been a strong backup for point guard Jordan Johnson, but mostly finds himself off the ball and in defensive sets.

Lyle isn’t much of a distributor, but he is a playmaker and living, breathing highlight reel. Lyle’s nine points against Wisconsin were a big deal, and he was part of the run that brought the Panthers into the lead.

The coaching staff told PantherU that Lyle’s sprain is one he could play on if need be but they’ll rest him as a precaution – having JayQuan McCloud available Thursday for the 7 p.m.

The ankle sprain most likely will not keep Lyle out for next Wednesday’s match-up at Minnesota.
