Going down to Vegas with Oral Roberts

The tourney title will be on the line as the Milwaukee Panthers will attempt to win their bracket of the MGM Grand Main Event on Wednesday afternoon when they face the Eagles of Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. The Panthers come into this game with a record of 2-3 but off a win over the Ragin’ Cajuns on Monday night by a score of 56-52. Oral Roberts enters the game with a 1-3 record including a loss to the Ragin Cajuns by twenty-four on Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles have two main contributors to the majority of their team stats. Junior guard Obi Emegano  is the team leader in scoring (21.0 points per game) and is also second on the team in assists (1.7 assists per game) and second on the team in rebounds (5.3 rebounds per game). The other main contributor to most of the stats on the roster is junior guard Korey Billbury who is second on the team in scoring (12.3 points per game) leading the team in rebounding (6.8 rebounds per game) and leading the team in (assists 2.3 assists per game)

There are two keys to the Panthers winning this game and their bracket of this tournament and continuing to build off the victory on Monday. One is developing some killer instinct. The Panthers have held double digit leads in each of the least two games only to allow the opponent back into the game and make it a competitive game in the end. Developing a killer instinct takes time in a season for a team to develop but now is the time for the Panthers to develop it as it will be beneficial once Horizon League play begins.

Instead of allowing opponents back into the game, the Panthers need to extend leads when they get to double digits and put teams away. Secondly the Panthers must reduce their turnovers. In the last two games the Panthers have committed 17 and 22 turnovers respectively. The turnover problem is two fold. It is not only a missed opportunity on offense but it usually puts your defense in a transition defense situation where the other team has a fast break opportunity. If the Panthers are able to accomplish both of these objectives they should be able to win their bracket of the tournament and return home with some momentum for Saturday’s game.
