Three players are set to redshirt

Head coach Rob Jeter announced today that three players will be redshirting this season for the Milwaukee Panthers. Freshman forwards Alex and Brett Prahl and junior guard Trinson White will be redshirting this year, which will allow them to maintain their eligibility for an additional season.

These three players redshirting will not be official until the end of the season since the coaches have the right to play them during the year if they need to because of an injury or a situation were they are needed.

The Prahl twins being redshirted is not a huge surprise since the Panthers have depth in the front court with five other players eligible to play this season. While they do possess great height, they are only freshman and need to develop a better understanding of the Panthers’ system. Redshirting will allow the “Twin Towers” to maintain four years of eligibility.

On the other hand, Trinson White being redshirted may shock some people since he is a junior, who transferred from Indian Hills Community College before this season, and was expected to be a contributor off the bench. But this is not a big surprise at all since Rob Jeter said in his postgame press conference after last weeks exhibition game against Marian, that he would probably be redshirted.

“I think with him, a year in the weight room and just a year of being around us could do wonders for him,” said Jeter. “He is excited about maybe just redshirting, I mean he is excited about it, I haven’t had to many players excited about that.”

White is a good basketball player, but an additional year in the weight room and getting comfortable with the team will help. Redshirting will allow him to maintain two years of eligibility.

As of now Alex and Brett Prahl and Trinson White will be redshirting this year, but the season is long and there is a chance they could play if the Panthers were in desperate need. Milwaukee fans will just have to wait and see how the season unfolds, but as of now I would be surprised if anyone of these three players did not end up redshirting.

As of now yes. It will be interesting to see how they use him with six other guards eligible to play. They will have to find ways to give him playing time so they do not waste his year of eligibility on the bench.
