The schedule for men’s basketball is here

2012-13 was a forgettable season for the Milwaukee Panthers, so how about we move away from that and get into the 2013-14 season?

Amanda Braun is the new AD, and she’s taking us to the U.S. Cellular Arena. Several players have moved on, to be replaced by a team that is almost 50% brand new. Expectations around the Horizon League are that Milwaukee will return as cellar-dwellers. On campus, the mood is cautiously optimistic.

It’s important to remember that the athletic department cannot release the schedule until all contracts are signed and returned; as such, this is a tentative schedule that could possibly change.

Without further ado, the 2013-14 men’s basketball schedule:

A few notes:

– The November 26th slot was previously taken by a Division I team who dropped out in late August. Judson University was the only school that could fit into our schedule once the other team dropped out.

– Due to the Cell being booked over a year in advance for some events, it was unavailable for the January 30th matchup against Wright State. The February 2nd game, against Oakland, will likely be at the Klotsche Center as well. The tentative nature of that location is part of the reason the schedule has not been released yet.

– The Chancellors and Presidents took part in a conference call last week to discuss options regarding expansion. I have no details other than to tell you the expansion talk has been ongoing over the summer and as recent as last week. This means that this is likely the final year the Horizon League sits at an odd number of members.

– IUPUI made the decision to postpone their return trip for the final Bracketbuster match-up. Milwaukee could be one of the schools that acts as a bookend, being one of the originals as well as one of the last teams next winter.

– Milwaukee will likely play a closed intrasquad scrimmage with Northwestern again. The relationship between the coaching staff at Milwaukee and former coaching staff at Northwestern was very cordial, and new head coach Chris Collins was eager to keep the arrangement going.

– Also keeping the schedule from being released is that contracts need to be finalized and signed before the athletic department can release the schedule. Dates and opponents are pretty much set, but game times and locations (KC or Arena) are not. You’ll know when we know.
