Temper your expectations

Following the victory in the Milwaukee Cup over Marquette, the emotions behind the Milwaukee program were at a high not seen since the last victory in the Cup back in September 2006.

For once since Louis Bennett left the program back in December 2005, people were optimistic.  Talking to fans of the program, I heard things like “Are we back?” and “We are back!” and, of course, “Back are we!”  I even got excited.

As the season has matured, we’re finding that the team isn’t winning as much as we hoped they would.  In fact, they haven’t won at all.  After tying New Hampshire, they’ve lost to Vermont, IPFW and Dayton.  Vermont is a hell of a team, so there’s nothing to be ashamed of there, but Dayton has only one other victory and IPFW has stumbled to a 2-5 record.

I don’t want to tell you to be depressed going into the match today against San Diego State, but temper your expectations; if we lose, don’t go jumping off the Locust Bridge.  Keep enthusiastic, keep hopeful and stay behind the Panthers.
